Witt Johnson | patient story
In November 2016, we were expecting our son, Whitaker, to be born without complication after an easy pregnancy. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had HELLP Syndrome during delivery and became very sick. Thankfully “Witt” was healthy, and after a few days, my husband and I were able to leave the hospital with our baby. Over the next few months, I learned a lot about HELLP Syndrome and discovered how lucky we were. I started thinking about ways to give back to help others who may not be as lucky.
During this process, it occurred to me that Witt could have easily needed care from Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands and how fortunate we are to have one. We choose to give back to Children’s Hospital because we want other families that find themselves in similar situations to get the best care for their children. We hope that Witt will never have to be a patient at the hospital, but we know that if he does, his best chance to get excellent care depends on more people giving back. –Kym Johnson
