USC students dance their way to more than $715,000 for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands
University of South Carolina Dance Marathon students have a lot to be proud of after raising more than $715,000 for the Child Life Program at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands.
On February 24th, 2024, the Dance Marathon organization hosted Main Event, a testament to their 26 years of dedicated philanthropy on campus. From 9 a.m.-11 p.m., the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center was alive with energy as 1,655 students came together to make a difference.
After months of dedication and preparation, students are thrilled to see their hard work pay off.
“To me that $715,107 embodies all the countless hours, tireless efforts and many miracles made,” said 23/24 USCDM President Kelly Forrester. “This year I watched numerous people fall in love with a cause so much bigger than themselves and come together under the motto the true heroes.”
Throughout the day, the students found inspiration in the heartfelt stories shared by patient families from Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands, highlighting the profound impact of the funds raised. Hearing directly from these families makes all the time and energy spent even more rewarding.
Funds raised will enhance the care and experiences of young patients, truly making an impact on the lives of children and families within the Midlands community.
What makes USC Dance Marathon unique is its inclusive approach to fundraising. Not only do college students dedicate themselves to fundraising efforts year-round, but they also facilitate “mini marathons” in nearby grade schools, empowering young students to contribute to this remarkable mission. Schools like Hammond, Ridge View, Cardinal Newman, Fulmer Middle School, Dreher, and White Knoll are among those actively involved in this noble cause.
Since its inception, USC Dance Marathon has been a beacon of hope for the community, raising over $9 million for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital – Midlands. Their partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and support from Prisma Health Midlands Foundation underscores their commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of children and families in need. The event itself was made possible through the unwavering support of Aflac, serving as the presenting sponsor, alongside the generous contributions of numerous other sponsors and community members.
As the largest student-run Philanthropic organization on USC’s campus, Dance Marathon continues to embody the spirit of compassion, unity, and service, inspiring future generations to give back and make a difference in the community.
