Prisma Health Midlands Foundation celebrates 25 years of advancing health care in the Midlands

Prisma Health Midlands Foundation (formerly Palmetto Health Foundation), a nonprofit organization that engages community partners to enhance health care for patients and families served by Prisma Health in the Midlands, celebrated its 25th anniversary this month. Since its inception, the Foundation has given more than $143 million to support health care advancements and programs in the community.

Founded in March 2000 as Palmetto Health Foundation – when Palmetto Health Richland and Baptist Medical Foundations merged – and renamed Prisma Health Midlands Foundation in 2019, the Foundation has been instrumental in funding innovative treatments, facilities, patient programs and more in the Midlands. With deep roots in the community, nearly 150,000 donors have supported the Foundation through the years.

“Having access to the most state-of-the-art treatments and renowned health care providers right here at home is key to the wellness of the entire Midlands region, and we are proud of our part in helping to create a better state of health,” said Jeff Faw, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation Executive Director and Chief Development Officer. “We express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our remarkable 25-year journey. And we look forward to our next chapter of enhancing health care in our community.”

Prisma Health Midlands Foundation is known for its significant contributions in the Midlands, including:

  • $21.5 million raised through a capital campaign to fund South Carolina’s first freestanding Children’s Hospital. Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital (now Prisma Health Children’s Hospital—Midlands) opened in 2008.
  • Walk for Life benefiting Prisma Health Breast Centers, which has funded a multitude of programs and equipment including 12 3D mammography units
  • $2 million raised to fund a da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System which allows for more precise and less invasive surgeries

Anthony Jackson, Prisma Health Midlands Region CEO, said. “Over the past 25 years, the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation has been a cornerstone in advancing health care in our community. Their contributions, totaling over $143 million, have funded innovative treatments, cutting-edge facilities and essential patient programs. This unwavering support has directly benefited countless patients, ensuring they receive the highest quality care. We are profoundly grateful for their dedication and commitment to enhancing health outcomes in the Midlands.”
