$530,000 and counting! The Midlands community truly came together to kick breast cancer to the curb at the 34th annual Walk for Life & Famously Hot Pink 1/2 Marathon + 5K on Saturday, October 12 at Segra Park – raising more than half-a-million dollars to support breast cancer patients right here in the community.
More than 4,000 participants laced up their sneakers, hit the pavement and crossed the finish line on the baseball field – all to raise awareness about early detection, celebrate survivors and support others currently battling breast cancer.
“It’s incredibly powerful to see thousands in the community come together each year to honor breast cancer survivors and lift up those who are in their fights,” said Jeffery Faw, Prisma Health Midlands Foundation Executive Director. “Walk for Life makes a profound impact in the community by raising funds for Prisma Health Breast Centers and supporting patients and families impacted by the disease. It’s truly a special day.”
Proceeds from the 2024 Walk for Life will fund a new Hologic Clarity HD™ High Resolution 3D™ Mammography Imaging Unit at Baptist Parkridge Hospital. This imaging unit is the latest, most innovative mammography unit on the market. Walk for Life funding also helps ensure patients continue to receive special items like educational materials, post-mastectomy camisoles and more.
Since its inception, the Walk for Life & Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon + 5K has raised more than $12 million to fund the latest in digital mammography technology and enhance programs and services for breast cancer survivors like Sarah Reandeau.
“The Walk for Life is deeply impactful for me as a breast cancer survivor because it symbolizes resilience, hope and community,” said Sarah. “Each step I take during the walk reminds me of the journey I’ve been through – the fears, struggles and triumphs. Walking alongside other survivors, families and supporters creates a powerful sense of solidarity, showing me I’m not alone in this fight.”
Prisma Health Midlands Foundation extends our sincerest thank you to all the participants, donors, volunteers and supporters who made this year’s Walk for Life & Famously Hot Pink 1/2 Marathon + 5K such a tremendous success. Your support is truly enhancing patient care at Prisma Health Breast Centers in the Midlands.
