These team members were selected through a competitive application process and were surprised on the job in August.

The William L. Ivey Endowment provides a unique scholarship opportunity for professional development for Prisma Health Richland team members. The scholarship covers conference registration, hotel accommodations and travel to one of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) conferences with the expectation that knowledge gained will be shared with others at Prisma Health and will result in first-hand expertise that will be a tremendous asset to Prisma Health.

The William L. Ivey Endowment was established to continue the legacy of the late William “Bill” L. Ivey and provide unique professional development opportunities. Mr. Ivey served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Richland Memorial Hospital from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. He sought to provide his team with the opportunity to travel and bring back knowledge to Richland Hospital. The fund, managed by Prisma Health Midlands Foundation, has been growing over the past 30+ years and the first scholarships were awarded in 2018. The naming of our 2025 recipients brings the total number of team members benefiting from this prestigious award to 21.

For more information, visit Professional Development Opportunity for Richland campus team members: William L. Ivey Scholarship – Prisma Health Midlands Foundation  or contact Paulette Sessions at (803) 434-5762. To give to the William L. Ivey Endowment to help fund future scholarships, contact Anna Saunders at (803) 434-2830 or anna.saunders@prismahealth.org.

The mission of the Ivey Scholarship is for health care providers to not only learn new best practices, but to share them with their fellow team members when they return from their conferences.

And that was on display at a recent lunch honoring Ivey Fellows. Three 2024 winners – Melanie D. Blackburn, MD, MHA, FAAP, FHM, Director of Quality, Prisma Health Children’s Hospital-Midlands; Leah Champion, BSN, RN, CPPS, Senior Safety Partner, Department of Clinical Care Experience; and Matthew Hall, MSN, MA, RN, CCRN, PCCN, TCRN, Nursing Practice Coordinator, Critical Care, Intensive Care Nursing – all shared their experiences from their conferences around the world.

Thank you for bringing your invaluable experiences and knowledge to the entire Prisma Health team.
