$4.5 Million in Support of Prisma Health Cancer Centers
The Midlands region is teeing off in April to support Prisma Health—Midlands through The Drive virtual golf tournament, presented by Aflac. Before its 31st year, The Drive had already raised more than $4.5 million in support of technology, programs and services for Prisma Health Cancer Cancers. Here are some examples of what’s been funded over the years:
Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)
An endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) is a camera scope tool used to identify lung disorders, including inflammation and cancers. The device allows a pulmonologist get a more up-close view of lungs and nearby lymph nodes to make more accurate diagnoses.
Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS)
TEMS equipment allows for the minimally invasive removal of rectal polyps and early-stage tumors. With this equipment, patients can avoid invasive, open abdominal surgery and have shorter recovery times.
Lymphedema Assessment and Early Detection Monitors/Analyzers
Lymphedema is related to the swelling of arms and legs from issues with the lymphatic system. The monitors/analyzers help assess and detect lymphedema to help assist with treatment.
Neoprobes for Sentinel Node Biopsies
Neoprobe equipment is used to more accurately target and complete minimally invasive lymph node biopsies. With this technology, procedure and recovery times are drastically shortened and surrounding tissue is likely to be affected by a biopsy.
Ultrasound System for Breast Center
Ultrasound systems are crucial for helping identify breast cancer and other breast-related issues. Newer, more robust ultrasound systems help detect breast cancer in its earlier stages, making it easier to treat.
This year, proceeds from the tournament will help fund a new da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System, which provides minimally invasive surgery used for general, bariatric, colorectal, gynecology/oncology, pediatric and urological surgeries.
